Sleepy Orange Sulphur Butterfly

My backyard serves up many photographic opportunities when I am not in the field. Native plants and shrubs provide nectar and serve as host plants. They draw insects, birds, and butterflies. I’m amazed at the wildlife activity that occurs on my one acre, Tucson property. One of the common visitors to my yard is the Sleepy Orange Sulphur Butterfly.

In this photo, a Sleepy Orange Sulphur Butterfly draws nectar from a violet colored species of Salvia. Salvia attracts many of the desert’s pollinators, including native bees, butterflies and hummingbirds.
