Closeup: Bromeliad Blossom

Coronavirus, restricted travel, and social distancing! I am deciding to turn this staycation into a photo study. This will consist of a series of photography self assignments of subjects around my home and surrounding one acre. The objective is to find new ways to look at the ordinary things that surround me and create an image with a refreshing or new viewpoint.

The first assignment is a closeup photo of the bloom on the potted bromeliad I walk pass multiple times everyday. It’s easy to appreciate the beauty of the plant each and every day. Doing this assignment caused me to appreciate the finer details of its complex structure and transition of colors. I now pause a few times each week to study the subtle changes that are occurring as the bromeliad blossom slowly unfolds. Now, looking with intent, I am looking forward to future photography self assignments, including re-shooting this subject in the near future.
